Head Chef (Village Builders and Phoenix Fire Gathering)

Carin McKay loves to cook.  She says “I am lucky that I get to do one of my favorite things for a living, and that is to cook for alot of people, and I get to cook the kind of food I like….  I like to cook for events where people care about organic, about community, and about health of themselves and the environment.”

Carin began as a prep cook in a small café in Mendocino county at age 14, and later as a prep desert chef at a fine restaurant.   In college, she began to learn how food can be healing as well as delicious.  She lived for a time in India, then moved to New York, where she cooked in the Omega Kitchen. She ran the deli at Integral Yoga in NYC, and met Joshua Rosenthal, who was opening a school, IIN, on Integrative Nutrition. There, she began to connect the dots with food, health, politics, community.  Soon after that, she met Teo, who mentored her in cooking for large groups of people, and she went on to learn how to cook Lebanese and Syrian food.  Culinary Magic was born in 1990, and since that time, she has cooked for many thousands of people.  Carin is excited to be preparing the meals at Phoenix Fire!
